It's LITERALLY the cool thing right now to talk about mental health and to 'come out' as having a mental health issue. It's almost as much cred as coming out as some atypical sexuality, so can't take these things seriously anymore.

2/2022 WT: a repeated request & more doubletalk
by neat blue dog inwe all know the now famous quote, "all of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not.
" well, this point is regurgitated in the latest wt, along with yet another new bunker scene:.
"during the great tribulation, we may receive instructions that seem strange, impractical, or illogical .

We all know the now famous quote, "All of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not." Well, this point is regurgitated in the latest WT, along with yet another new bunker scene:
"During the great tribulation, we may receive instructions that seem strange, impractical, or illogical . . . . If you trust the direction we receive today and readily obey, you will likely do the same during the great tribulation."
It's weird that they step it up a few degrees, not just whether it's "sound...or not", but downright "strange, impractical, or illogical". Can't argue with that!
Then there's a scenario described as follows:
"A single sister would like to purchase a pair of slacks, so she asks a mature sister for her honest opinion about the selection."
Yeah I don't know. What's more realistic is an elderette offering her opinion unsolicited, or better yet offering it to others behind your back. But on the bright side, both men AND women are susceptible to tight pants. (I almost forgot the women's versions are called Spanx according to AM💩.)
Then there's a paragraph that tries to sound so reasonable:
Suppose an elder is concerned about a fellow believer’s choices in dress or grooming. The elder could ask himself, ‘Is there a Scriptural reason to say something?’ Conscious of the need to be objective, he might ask another elder or mature publisher for his thoughts. Together they might review Paul’s counsel on dress and grooming. (Read 1 Timothy 2:9,10.) Paul outlined certain broad principles, observing that a Christian’s dress should be appropriate, modest, and sensible. But Paul did not make a list of dos and don’ts. He recognized that Christians have a right to express their individual taste within Scriptural limits. So in determining whether counsel is needed, the elders should consider if the person’s choices reflect modesty and good sense. We do well to realize that two mature Christians may make different choices, both of which are acceptable. We should not impose our own standards of right and wrong on fellow believers.
And yet, we know full well what would happen if a JW was dressed and groomed neatly, cleanly and of the highest standards of most areas of society . . . and yet declined to wear a skirt, or declined to wear a suit jacket, or grew a beard, etc.

QUESTION of the DAY (a brain teaser)
by Terry inquestion of the dayeach man chosen of the twelve jesus selected had been called disciples, or "students" (meaning "one who learns").
(latin discipulus; greek μαθητής mathētḗs; hebrew לִמּוּד limmûdh;jesus is stated in the bible to have sent out the twelve using a new description: apostles, "whom he also named apostles" (luke 6:13), first before his death "to the lost sheep of israel" (matthew 10), and after his (resurrection to spread the message of the good news to all nations (matthew 28:16-28:20).with the above firmly in mind, the question arises: “why aren’t the governing body called apostles?”.

There are many remnants of the business world left in JW terminology, from both Russell the wannabe businessman and Rutherford the lawyer and wannabe judge. Just like publisher, governing body has more secular origins.
But you're right: they claim to be directly appointed and 'sent forth' from God and Jesus themselves, so technically there should be no issue with being called apostles. However not doing so makes it easier to talk out of both sides of their mouths. They also have written lots of material denouncing apostolic succession which would have to be backpedaled. And besides, the Mormons beat them to it with their governing body, "The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles".

Yeah definitely not a secret WT project. But it does look like it was made by someone who was raised around JWs when younger and is now having existential thoughts and maybe contemplating going back, scared of current events and looking for meaning.

Renting to a Witness of the opposite sex...
by James Robinson ini need a question answered.
i know of a situation where a single sister took in a single brother as a renter, so she could be his caregiver, as he was very along in years.. long story short, they were forced to get married.
i believe it was labeled under "appearance of evil" by the elders.. my question is: what do the elders base this on?

I believe you're confusing what the Elders book actually says, which is the opposite. In fact it mentions this situation explicitly and says that would be an exception. That's probably where you heard it.

Money Spinners
by Lost in the fog ini can remember when i was in that there were numerous articles and assembly talks about not using the congregation as a means of making money from a captive audience of brothers and sisters.. i was looking at the etsy website and stumbled upon a jw themed product.. i wondered if there were any more and discovered that there were lots.
mind you maybe it's people who have left who see an opportunity for making money from gullible jws.. https://www.etsy.com/uk/search?q=jehovah%27s%20witness%20letter%20writing&ref=auto-1.

I wouldn't say they're ex JWs, because JWs have been doing this for decades in different forms. The only thing they've been specifically forbidden from monetizing is the JWdotORG logo or any copyrighted imagery.

Missed opportunity of Jehovah’s Witnesses
by Abraham1 injesus had foretold that people of "last days" would “faint out of fear” because of things such as “sea-level rise’ as part of “signs of last days” in luke 21:25. bible translators—including new world translation of jehovah’s witnesses—missed the real meaning as they translated it as “roaring of the sea and its agitation.” (https://www.jw.org/en/library/bible/nwt/books/luke/21/).
more careful translations such as niv put it: “roaring and tossing of the sea.” (https://biblehub.com/luke/21-25.htm) word for “tossing” is σάλου (salou), from saino; i.e., billow,” (swell outwards).
thus underlying thought is like balloon swelling, or water flowing outwards, as though ready to roll over, thus points to the modern terminology “sea-level rise.” biblos interlinear translation (int:) translates it as “of [the] sea and rolling surge.” “rolling sea.” (a greek lexicon to the new testament, edward robinson (d.d., page 416) (a greek lexicon to the new testament on the basis of dr. robinson ... by c. robson).. jesus’ original use of the wording “tossing of the sea” is another way of saying “sea-level would rise” as a result of pollution of air.

Yeah that's not at all a stretch.
That being said, JWs would eat it up.

So, When Did They Stop Singing?
by Atlantis inrutherford said:.
a few words like the above pronounced at the beginning of the study would be far more beneficial than to occupy the same time in singing songs, which often express much that is out of harmony with the truth of and concerning god's kingdom.watchtower/1938/may/1st/pg.139 .
back then, they had what was called: order of study, and this is what every overseer was instructed to say to the audience.. .
